Simple Prosperity: Finding Real Wealth in a Sustainable Lifestyle
by By David Wann
Review by Craig Shafer
Live
in a smaller house, build a clothesline, buy organic, ride a bike. We
consider these things but sometimes, well, we just need a push. Local
author, David Wann, in his wonderful new book Simple Prosperity gives
us that much needed kick in the pants.
In this follow up to the
widely popular “over-consumption” call-to-arms, Affluenza, he picks up
where he left off by giving us practical advice and small everyday
steps to follow as we strive to right-size our lives and grow toward a
more socially conscious existence. This book undoubtedly preaches to
the choir, yet is packed with hundreds of great ideas to make our lives
simpler, greener and more fulfilled.
Simple Prosperity covers
a lot of ground and my favorite chapter, “The Bonds of Social Capital,”
drives home the point that we are richer when we give a higher priority
to belonging rather than to belongings. I suppose that means I must say
goodbye to those plans for a plasma TV and say hello to the call to
volunteer at my neighborhood school.
