Tour de Fat is Ten Times More Fun
by Katrina Pfannkuch
New Belgium Brewing Company is riding its annual bike tour, the Tour de Fat, into its 10th year with a larger following than ever. The tour kicked off in Chicago in July, will hit New Belgium in Fort Collins on September 5th and City Park in Denver on September 12th. As one of the largest and most unique bike tours of its kind, it encourages riders to come as their alter ego and join like-minded folks who want to help increase awareness and participation in cycling as a sustainable form of transportation.
This annual traveling bike tour celebrates the power of the bike by encouraging everyone to embrace their inner-cyclist and ride the streets as a rolling carnival of creativity. The festival also features a celebration of the inspirational car-for-bike swapper series in which brave souls hand over their car keys as a commitment to commute by bike. Several bands are slated to play, many of which travel city to city with the tour.
Interested in joining these fun, carefree bikers? Participants are expected to follow some guidelines called “The Commandments,” such as: you must dress up, no dogs allowed, you must ride a bike, and others. Go online and grab a form to sign up, and then fill it out before the bike parade starts. Also check out information on the Wonderbike group, New Belgium’s bicycling commuter advocacy program.
